OUR WORSHIP

  • Our worship centers on God. We glorify, praise, and give thanks to God through our liturgy.  We encounter God through scripture, inspiring sermons, prayer, and responses.

  • Our worship engages our people. Central to our being, worship at Wasatch Presbyterian Church is reverent, representative, relevant, and rooted in tradition. The art on the bulletin cover is a visual representation of the scripture, in order to draw congregants into worship and support the sermon.

  • Our worship begins with our music. A central, consistent call in our worship is our music. Our music blends traditional and contemporary styles, along with occasional treats from other cultures and places.

  • Our worship embraces our children. Children of all ages are welcome to worship in the Sanctuary or to participate in Funday Sunday, which meets in the Fellowship Hall during part of the worship service. Wherever they are, children are valued, engaged and nurtured.

  • Our worship is enhanced by our architecture. Our sanctuary is spacious, simple, and adorned with stained-glass windows that feature scriptural themes.  Our new state-of-the-art audio and video system provides an intimate worship experience for those worshipping with us online.

OUR COMMUNITY

  • Salt Lake City is known for its scenic beauty. Located in a valley between the Wasatch and Oquirrh mountain ranges, the setting is remarkable.  The city has diverse offerings in the arts, professional sports, excellent and wide-ranging dining options, and close proximity to outdoor recreation. To learn more about the city and its environs, check out the Salt Lake Tribune and Salt Lake Magazine.

  • The Sugarhouse neighborhood around the church is an established, thriving area, full of bungalow houses, parks, walkable tree-lined streets, restaurants, and markets.  The neighborhood is adjacent to the University of Utah and the foothills of the Wasatch Mountains, and is a 10 minute drive from downtown Salt Lake City.

  • For those that love exploring the outdoors, Utah boasts  5 national parks, 44 state parks, 9 national monuments, 5 national forests and 2 national recreation areas. These lands range from snowcapped mountains to wild rivers to colorful red rock canyons. The state is also home to some of the best skiing in the country, with several resorts within 45 minutes of the church.

  • The Presbytery of Utah is excited to host the upcoming 226th General Assembly for the PCUSA this summer 2024. See the “Growing and Vibrant'“ video that the PCUSA created about Salt Lake City!

OUR DESIRES

  • We are seeking an ordained pastor who is skillful in preaching and worship leadership. We are hungry for the word and message of God that both challenges and inspires us to action.

  • We are seeking someone skillful in strategy and vision. We believe in the old Proverb, “A vision without a plan is just a dream. A plan without a vision is just drudgery. But a vision with a plan can change the world.” Our new pastor should help forge a collective vision and plan for our future that will move us forward.

  • We want our pastor to skillfully bring out the best in us. They should be adept at motivating and enabling staff and members to use our gifts and resources in pursuit of what God is calling us to do. They should also hold us accountable for commitments and promises we make.

  • We want a leader who is an effective communicator. We believe direct, candid and frequent communication is essential for a healthy church. We seek someone who prioritizes listening to the collective wisdom of our members, who values the unique perspectives of individuals and who shares the information that is needed to make Spirit-filled decisions.

  • For more specific information on the position, see our MDP (#11020) on the Church Leadership Connection or the job description.
