The youth had a phenomenal Night Games last Friday with a whopping turnout of 15 youth and friends!  We watched E.T. and played Ghosts in the Graveyard and Sardines.

Sunday School:

Matthew 5:38-48You have heard that it was said, ‘Eye for eye, and tooth for tooth.’ But I tell you, do not resist an evil person. If anyone slaps you on the right cheek, turn to them the other cheek also. And if anyone wants to sue you and take your shirt, hand over your coat as well. If anyone forces you to go one mile, go with them two miles.  Give to the one who asks you, and do not turn away from the one who wants to borrow from you. “You have heard that it was said, ‘Love your neighbor[i] and hate your enemy.’ But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be children of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. If you love those who love you, what reward will you get?Are not even the tax collectors doing that? And if you greet only your own people, what are you doing more than others? Do not even pagans do that? Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.

This week in Sunday school we talked about how hard it can be to show love toward your "enemies" or those who have wronged you.  It's very easy to slip into satisfying daydreams of revenge and that *one snarky or cutting thing you could've said* when someone embarrassed you or hurt you.  Rather than feeding into that instinct, we practiced acts of love and grace by writing letters -- of forgiveness, of prayers, and of love -- to people who have hurt us in the past, or to those we have hurt.

Stay tuned this week for the WPC Youth's big Interview Project!  We have a handful of long-time WPC members who are excited to meet and greet with the youth and tell their stories.

  • This Sunday, February 26th is our big interview event.  Please be sure that your youth is in the loft promptly at 10:10am so we can get started!  We will be providing a special treat for this event.
  • The Mardi Gras party is finally upon us!  Youth can join Annalise in the Loft at 5:30 if you're there early to help set up for the youth-sponsored dance party!  Please send song requests / ideas to aford@wpcslc.org
  • If you haven't had this discussion with your youth already, please talk with them about cell phone usage and usage of other distracting items at youth events.  During youth events phones are to be placed in the "phone bowl" and stay there for the duration of the event, unless there is an emergency.  This applies to friends that they bring to youth events as well!

Can't wait to see everyone this week as we prepare for the season of Lent.
