All rafting trip Good Humans, I will see you tomorrow at 2:00 p.m. for our departure. Wear your Good Human T!
Remember, we are requiring each participant to have a wide brimmed hat, river shoes (no velcro/no sneakers), and a rash guard (long-sleeve preferred). Please review the packing list for complete details. If you need to be sent the other documents handed out at the parent meeting, just let me know.
Additionally, please note our chaperones have changed by one. Ethan, Sunya, Nathan, and I are still chaperoning and Ed Owens is now joining us! (Kristen Kiburtz may still come for the very last day.)
GET THINKING ABOUT YOUTH SUNDAY (AUG 25) 1- 3 minute WRITTEN REFLECTION:
For those youth not going on the rafting trip, they can start thinking about and writing their 1 - 3 minute reflection on youth service summer opportunities, a family summer service volunteer experience, or a reflection on one of many youth trips this summer.
I would like for most youth to talk about something different from their summer, so this is what I am thinking (these are my ideas, but can be changed if your youth really doesn't want to reflect on this area):
Dylan - Pride Festival Volunteering
Alex - Triennium
Paige - Triennium
Elena S - Plarn-A-Thon with Bags to Beds
Sam Kl. - Camp Tuttle
Andy - Rafting
Katie - Car wash fundraiser
Aidan - The Rescue Mission of Salt Lake service project
Aj - family volunteer opportunity?
Lucas - family volunteer opportunity/service project?
Kaila - family volunteer opportunity/service project?
Scott - Jewish Community Center?
Thomas - family volunteer opportunity/service project or initiating new 7th graders?
Sam B. - summer in middle east?
Each of the youth listed below will be assigned to talk about a service project or learning component from the Service Trip. During the rafting trip, we will talk about who wants to reflect on what. Here are the choices: Utah Community Action, The Road Home, Mobile Food Pantry, Water Outreach, Royal Family Kids, World Refugee Festival learning component, Lunch on a dollar learning component, United Way Day of Action, Community Garden, South Valley Domestic Abuse Shelter.
Mark your calendars: we will have Youth Sunday rehearsal on Saturday evening, August 24th.
Unfortunately, I have not heard back from Todd yet regarding good music/songs for the youth to join in on with the band on Youth Sunday. We will practice a few songs during the rafting trip so maybe one of those work or if we have a musical parent that would like to take the lead on this, please let me know.
