Ways to be Involved
Help teach Bible stories to the Sudanese children
About 20 children, ages 4-10 are eager to learn the stories of our faith. Simple lesson plans and materials are provided and a Sudanese adult assists. Select one Sunday a month, bring a team for one month a year, raise money to hire a part time teacher.
Assist with basic life skills
Teach a class, or mentor a family in budgeting, car care, child development and discipline, legal assistance, or navigating the social services system.
Provide financial support
Contribution to WPC Sudanese account #800648 help meet emergencies, such as rent or utility payments, tuition, car repairs, etc. Money is held by WPC and the Sudanese leaders decide on use of funds.
Sudanese Fellowship News
We were reminded in December that Jesus was a refugee, and that God has a special concern for refugees. Then Wasatch demonstrated their concern for refugees by giving $1,324 for the Sudanese Fellowship. Smith's Gift Cards were given to each household: 8 single individuals, 5 small families, and 8 large families. Over five hundred dollars remained for the emergency fund, which had an immediate request to help pay utilities for a young family with two preschool children. Power and heat stayed on---Thank you all!!!
At a recent Salt Shaker dinner the conversation touched upon the news from the new nation of South Sudan, which is full of discord and violence. Those who have left their country to live in the US are anxious for their loved ones in Sudan while struggling to make a good life here. The question was asked, "where is hope in this sad situation?" The reply: they may be in despair, but they gather weekly to worship. As they sing and pray they are reminded of God's faithfulness and they become hopeful. So as they sing--they hope. And as they hope --they sing.
