Please consider volunteering for Wasatch Presbyterian Church Family Promise Week: January 8 thru January 15, 2012. Click here to volunteer.
There will be a quick "turn around" with Family Promise this time. If you're not familiar with Family Promise, its a nationwide program providing no-cost housing and meals to families in need for up to a year. Family Promise frees the adults to look for jobs. They can save money for rent or a down pay-ment on a house. Families are housed primarily in churches, Wasatch Pres-byterian Church among them. Church members cook and serve meals, pre-pare guest rooms, transport guests, entertain children, provide supervision and a miscellany of other activities. We hosted four families November 13 - 20 and will host again January 8 - 15. Lots of help is needed 24/7 so please make a New Year's resolution to support Family Promise. You can sign up at wpcslc.org, in person before or after Sunday worship, or by contacting David Harris.
As part of a nationwide consortium of churches, Wasatch Presbyterian Church participates in Family Promise (FP),providing a week of no-cost housing and meals to homeless families four times each year. “Family” is defined as at least one adult with at least one dependent child. Four families are housed, one each in the four Sunday School rooms, on the church’s main level. Breakfast and dinner are prepared and served by Wasatch members in the kitchen and sack lunches are given to all guests. FP Adults are required to have a job or to be actively looking and, therefore, have a chance to save money for a down payment or rent for a house. Families may stay in FP for up to two years and the success rate (moving into independent housing) is very high. Family Promise is an inter-denominational volunteer organization of which Wasatch is a participating member church hosting families overnight in the church for a week at a time four times a year.
