Family Promise - Volunteer Tasks for Saturday Setup
- Report to the FP Coordinator at the church on the scheduled Saturday and time for IHN setup (see WPC web site for time).
- Determine the number of families to be hosted.
- Make room assignments based on family size. Post an identification sign on each family's room showing the adult's names and the names of their children.
- With provided sheets, pillowcases, and blankets, make up the appropriate number of beds, cots, or cribs for each family.
- In each family's room, setup a nightstand with lamp and alarm clock. Also provide towels, washcloths, toiletries, and a laundry hamper.
- If there is space enough in each room, provide a table for storage and extra folding chairs.
- Post a list of FP Network rules in each room and in the library/lounge.
- Cover all hall and outside windows in smaller rooms with construction paper. Large curtains with spring bars for hanging are available for larger rooms.
- Setup the lounge area (library) with the TV and VCR. Set out bags of games, toys, and stuffed animals in the lounge area for use by the children.
Thank you for volunteering!
Wasatch Presbyterian Family Promise
Set-up Saturday/ Sunday before arrival, Task list:
Time and date will be listed on WPC web site
Supplies for IHN are kept in the storage area across from Sunday school rooms and additional supplies are in the storage area below the kitchen, right hand storeroom on the left hand side. There are at least 8 inflatable queen beds for adult usage or older children who might share and for overnight hosts. Smaller children will be provided cots or smaller inflatable’s. In a pinch use the army cots which are stored in a folded fashion along the back wall of the basement storage area. Some smaller children might share the bed with a parent, particularly if the parent is a single mom.
- Determine the number of families and their members from the list provided by the FP coordinator and assign them to the appropriate room. The coordinator will know whether the Sunday school rooms on the first floor are being used or the room to the east of the library. For each room determine how many adults and children will be using the room and ages of the children so as to allocate beds and cots, linens, and toiletries.
- Bring beds, cots and cribs as appropriate, pillows and sheets, night tables, lamps, clocks, towels and washcloths, and toiletries to each room.
- Set up beds. For inflatable beds determine that you have the correct inflator device, (there are three types) For cots, make certain that it is set up so that it will not collapse when used.
- Make up beds. Use a plastic liner to protect bedding where advisable. In winter provide a blanket in addition to quills. Children will always receive a quilt. Use protective zippered cover on pillows.
- Place bedside table by adults' bed with an alarm clock and lamp.
- If there is room in the room provide a table for storage use against a wall and chairs for each family member.
- Place a towel and wash cloth for each family member at the fool of each bed.
- Place a plastic laundry hamper in each room.
- Place toiletries appropriate for each family member on the table. The Youth Ministry will often have prepared these as a welcome basket along with a name sheet for the room.
- Post FP rules in each room and in library/lounge.
- Post the names of each family including the children's names on the door to their rooms. See 9 above.
- Determine whether the windows to the outside or hall need to be covered to provide privacy. For Sunday school room on first floor there are large curtains with spring bars for hanging color coordinated to each room. For smaller windows use colored construction paper and scotch tape.
- Set-up lounge area in the library. There is a TV and VCR and tapes for the families use. Games are in several large bags to be set out. There will often be a bag of stuffed animals which may be placed on the bed of the smaller children for them to keep when they leave. The gym is the area for active play, but may be used for eating during meals, or for alternate video watching by children.
