INFORMATION SHEET FOR WPC VOLUNTEERS

Overnight Hosts 830pm - 630am

You are the guests hosts during the above hours, and the caretaker of the WPC building. Your job is to socialize ("hang with 'em'), and make them feel at home. That includes watching TV, reading to the children, playing games, and just being available to help them with the use of our facilities. The parents are commonly exhausted from their day's activities and the high stress that their situation causes, so play with the children is commonly appreciated. The guests are expected to discipline their children, so if there's a need to communicate with the parents about a problem, that's your job. Use your imagination and initiative to help out, and feel free to call the on-call coordinator for advice. For bedrooms, guests use the admin level class/restrooms. General guidelines follow:

  1. Make yourself a name tag from materials in the kitchen, or in the "football", the book containing the keys and policies/procedures. Sign the logbook in the kitchen with your time of arrival and departure. When you leave , be sure to record any thoughts in the logbook, or, if confidentiality is needed, in the appropriate section of the football, in order to communicate with the next shift(s), Feel free to call the on-call coordinator if something shouldn't wait. A list of the guests names is in the football.
  2. Introduce yourself to the evening hosts, and to any guests around.
  3. Children in their bedrooms and quiet by 10pm; lights out, and TV off no later than 11pm.
  4. The following are off- limits to guests, and locked off , (except for fire exits) other floors, administrative offices and suite; loft and pre-school levels and storage rooms north of the kitchen. We will post off-limits equipment in the library, which will usually be used as a TV room. Guests may use the laundry facilities, gym, and bathrooms on the admin/gym level. Their bedrooms should not be entered without a knock and verbal permission, except in an emergency. They may use the kitchen phone, which will be programmed for local calls only.
  5. Occasionally, a guest may not sleep at the church, but arrangements will-need to be made with you and/or FP (and communicated to you) before 10pm. If a guest fails to return by 10pm without prior arrangements, please call the on-call coordinator, who will deal with the situation. The breakout door on the south side of the admin level should be locked by 10pm.
  6. The host bedroom will usually be in the conference room in the administration suite or in another room on the admin level. The admin level will always remain locked. We'll supply bedding, or you may want to bring a sleeping bag . An alarm clock and reading light will be provided to you. Lights out and quiet by 11 pm, please; and arise in time to open the admin breakout door by 0600,(if you are not the one providing breakfast) and then knock on the guest bedroom doors (and get a voice response) at 0600 weekdays (they sleep in weekends). Give the football to the breakfast hosts,(if any) before you leave, or to the FP Coordinator as directed the night before .
THANK YOU FOR VOLUNTEERING AND FOR YOUR HOSPITALITY!!!
