We at Wasatch care about kids, especially the children of foster care, those who have been abused or neglected, and who have had a rough start in life. These are a number of ways to serve:
Royal Family Kids, summer camp and school-year mentor club for children from foster care, which just wrapped up its 16th year. Additional help is always needed, for both staffing and fundraising. https://sandygslc.royalfamilykids.org/
The Giving Tree, which provides Christmas gifts for children in foster care, in partnership with the Utah Foster Care Foundation. Last December, Wasatch members donated gifts for more than 200 children.
Watch for The Giving Tree Coming Soon!
In Utah, there are over 2,000 children in foster care at any given time. Christmas time is an especially difficult time for these children, as they are constantly reminded that they are living away from their parents. In addition, many children are removed from their homes in December, due to the stress and difficulties associated with the holidays.
BUT...there is something you can do. Wasatch Presbyterian will again be collecting donated Christmas gifts for children in the foster care system. Watch for the Giving Tree in Fellowship Hall, which will be decorated with name tags having ages and gift suggestions for children in foster care. Please take a tag, buy a gift for a child and bring it back with the tag to put under the tree. All donations will be distributed to the children by staff and volunteers from the Utah Foster Care Foundation. If you would like to help with collection, please contact Shelley Horel.
Thank you for blessing some of the kids who need it most.
Undie Sunday, which collects (new) socks and underwear for children in foster care, also in partnership with the Utah Foster Care Foundation. This last August, Wasatch members donated almost $2000 worth of socks and underwear.
