Special Gifts to Wasatch Presbyterian Church
The Living Tree

The Living Tree is the fruit of a generous gift from Oscar and Annabel Baer, long time members of Wasatch Presbyterian Church. The purpose of The Living Tree is to acknowledge special gifts to Wasatch in support of its mission. Created by sculptor John Mortensen, the tree was dedicated March 13, 1994.Special Gifts to Wasatch Presbyterian Church

Every Sunday we give our offering in response to God’s generosity. There are also times when our hearts are so full, we want to make additional gestures of giving back to express our gratitude for God’s grace. Some gifts are motivated by joy, some by thanksgiving, and some in appreciation for the lives of those past and present who love and serve the Lord while in our presence.

God created us and scriptures attest, remembering and being remembered are essential to our human natures. November seems to be a time that we formally stop and think about how the past affects who we are. On All Saints Day, we remembered those who have gone before us. On Veterans Day, we remembered those who serve our country, on Thanksgiving, we reviewed our lives and recognized the abundance we enjoy that comes from the hand of the Lord.

As the Book of Hebrews tells us, we are surrounded by a great cloud of witnesses and believers who lived out their faith be-fore us and now inspire us to do the same. The Living Tree sculpture in fellowship hall was a gift in 1994 from two of those witnesses, Oscar and Annabel Baer. The purpose of the sculpture is to encourage and acknowledge special gifts to Wasatch Presbyterian Church in support of our mission to serve the Lord Jesus Christ.

Twice a year, Wasatch acknowledges these special offerings by dedicating them in worship and placing new leaves on The Living Tree. On the Sunday after Thanksgiving, a new leaf was dedicated and put on The Living Tree for the gifts of the youth kitchen in the loft and the loft workstations.

Please stop by The Living Tree in Fellowship Hall and gives thanks for these generous offerings that glorify God as he works through Wasatch Presbyterian Church. The newest leaf represents the offering: “Thanks be to God for our youth and the committees who make Wasatch truly God’s house “ Don and Noreen Rouillard
