June 14, 2019

We might actually be in summer now… I won’t hold my breath though.  It’s been wonderful to see the congregation come together and see faces from a different service and be able to catch up.  Prayers that you are able to connect with those in your life that you may not have seen or talked to in a while.  Prayers of safe travel if you are venturing to other locations.

Blanket the world with love!  Our blanket Sunday offering will be this Sunday.  A $10 donation will supply one blanket to someone in need.  The blankets are distributed in the U.S. as well as worldwide and used during natural disasters.  Please consider making a donation and supporting this valuable mission through Church World Service.

This coming Thursday through Sunday, the youth will be participating in service projects within our own community.  We will serve with non-profit organizations including Utah Food Bank's mobile food pantry, Utah Community Action, the Road Home, and the Rescue Mission of SLC.  Additionally, we will sort donations and fill 52 backpacks with school supplies for Royal Family KIDS, participate in education components to better understand the needs within SLC, work within a community garden that provides vegetables to low income families, attend a cultural festival for World Refugee Day, make blankets and pass out Gatorade and water to persons experiencing homelessness, and participate with hundreds of other volunteers for United Way of Salt Lake's Annual Day of Action.

We will do all of that within three days of serving and have time for fun, bonding, and connection with each other.  We are still in need of trusted and safe chaperones for several four hour time slots.  Contact Dawn for more information at dfleishman@wpcslc.org.

Our annual rummage sale fund raiser for the Sudanese Fellowship with be held on July 13 & 14 from 8:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.  We are in need of good quality items and the most needed items are: housewares, children's games and toys, linens, household decor, sporting goods, jewelry, and holiday decorations.  Books and clothes will also be sold.  In addition, we will be having a boutique of hand crafted items.  Unfortunately, we will not be able to accept large furniture.  Small furniture and lamps are fine.

We ask that you take your items to the designated Sunday School rooms and place them on the correct table.  If you need a special time for drop off, please contact Jane.

We need help setting up on Thursday evening and Friday during the day.  Also, volunteers are needed during the sale to monitor, answer questions, and man the sales table.  If you would like to volunteer or have any questions, please contact Jane Hereim.  Thank you for your support!

Stay connected over the summer with WPC Children's Ministry!  Our theme for Camp Wasatch was Celebrating God's Creation, and whether or not you were part of Camp Wasatch, you can share your summer celebrations in God's Creation with CM!  I have photo cards in the Fellowship Hall for everyone to take with you on your summer adventures and take photos with them.  Send them to me or post them with #anillustratedearth so we can stay connected all summer long!

Our Annual July 3rd BBQ is right around the corner!  Join us at the Parley’s Creek   Pavilion in Sugarhouse Park from 6:00 - 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 3rd for burgers, hotdogs, water play, bingo, dessert and more!  Look for the sign up in Fellowship Hall during June, we’re looking for folks to bring sides to share.  If you are interested in helping setup, prepare food, or clean up please let Congregational Life know by emailing wasatchclc@gmail.com.

We are looking for a new Soup Kitchen Scheduler(s), to take the lead in coordinating volunteers each month to make sandwiches and serve at the soup kitchen.  The soup kitchen is a wonderful ministry and a great way to involve those within and outside the congregation.  The volunteer schedule is set for 2019.  This could be a great role for two people to share.  Anyone interested or with questions is invited to contact Alysia Harris at delraydog@comcast.net.

Save the date for another Labor Day Retreat at Camp Tuttle! - August 31-September 2.  All are invited to join us for a weekend of fun and fellowship in the mountains, with activities including hiking, games, tie-dyeing, biking, reading, and campfire fun.  Camp Tuttle is about 40 minutes from WPC and offers a beautiful alpine setting at the top of Big Cottonwood Canyon.  We have the camp reserved from Saturday morning through Monday morning.  Food will be provided by the camp cook and lodging includes bunk beds in rustic cabins.  Stay tuned for more information and sign-up forms.  Questions, please contact Rebecca Sandulli at rsandulli@wpcslc.org.

This is your chance to make a difference in a child's life.  50 kids from the Utah foster care system will enjoy a week of guaranteed fun and caring, in the Wasatch Mountains this summer, from July 28 through August 2.  We are in need of more volunteers to staff this ministry.  The largest need is for counselors, or "Big Campers" and two social workers.  However, there are many other ways you can serve, with organizing, sorting, packing, crafts, reading at bedtime, activities, and just having fun with the kids.  Camp training is available.  Please visit our website at www.sandygslc.royalfamilykids.org to apply, donate, explore, find answers, and to see what Royal Family Kids Camp is about.  You may also contact Shelley Horel at rochellehorel@gmail.com.

To all who have donated and supported Royal Family Kids, thank you!  You helped to make this camp possible.

Each Sunday throughout the summer, anyone who wishes to sing in the choir for that Sunday's service is invited to come to the choir room for a short rehearsal at 9:30 to learn the anthem for the day.  The music is straightforward and fun!  Please consider joining the summer choir when you can.

Join us each Sunday during the Summer from 9:00 - 10:00 a.m., in room 116 for a class on “Manifesting God within and around through prayer, meditation, sacred readings and mindfulness.”
