August 9, 2019

May you feel a roar in your soul, like the unusual storms we experienced in Salt Lake this week.  The weather has changed quite a bit this week, as it sometimes does in life.  May we roll through those storms and find amazement in the wonder of life and the experiences we have.

Don’t forget your undies in August!  Foster parents continually ask for socks and underwear for the 2,700 Utah children living in foster care.  For the last few years Wasatch has been participating in this significant and important program and will again be collecting child-sized socks and underwear for kids in foster care.  All sizes of socks and underwear for both girls and boys are needed, and from diapers to adult sizes (for teenagers).  Collection dates are August 10 - August 24.  Bins will be in Fellowship Hall and the main entrance for your convenience.  The Utah Foster Care Foundation and Grandfamilies will distribute your donations to the children and youth who need them.  Thank you so much for making such a wonderful difference in a child’s life, especially as they begin a new school year.

Buildings and Grounds invites anyone interested in joining us on August 13 for our monthly project work session, Task Tuesday-Pizza and Projects.  We meet in the library and do projects from 8:30 - 11:30 a.m.  It ends with your favorite pizza for lunch.  Join as we work together maintaining, repairing and improving our church and its grounds.  Among this month’s projects are working on the gardens, washing windows and repairing the sprinkler system.  All materials and supplies will be provided.

All are invited on August 14 from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. at the Cottonwood Heights Recreation Center Outdoor Pool (7500 S. 2700 E.)  Please bring food to share (hot dogs etc. are available at the snack stand) and join us for a swim and summer dinner.  Look for our Wasatch group on the grass in the shade behind the diving platforms (the back corner from the entrance).  Come and go as you wish - this is a    completely low key, fun time to just be together.  All ages welcome!  Rates: Under 3 - Free; 3-17 - $4.50; 18 and older - $5.50.  For additional information, contact Luana Uluave at

Join us Thursday, August 15 at 8:00 p.m. at the Sugarhouse Pub.  All are welcome, no RSVP necessary.  Any questions, contact Andrew Fleishman.

MOPS are invited to a casual meet up to reconnect with one another next Friday, August 16 from 3:30 - 6:00 p.m. at Liberty Park.  Meet near the playground and splash pad, drop by as you are able, and if folks want to stay for dinner at food trucks/the farmers market that is an option.

The Personnel Committee will soon initiate the search process for a new Children’s Ministry Director.  To support the ministry during the search process, we are seeking individuals within the congregation who might be interested in serving as the Interim Children’s Ministry Director(s).  If/as needed or desired, the position could be shared by more than one individual.  The key areas of focus would be communications and scheduling, Sunday School management (curriculum and teachers provided), and leadership at fellowship and service activities.  Expected commitment would be 10-20 hours/week for at least 2-3 months.  Anyone interested is invited to contact John Horel, Personnel Chair at, or Rebecca Sandulli at

Registration is now open for the Labor Day Retreat!  All ages are invited to join us August 31 - September 2 for a weekend of fun and fellowship in the mountains.  For more  information about the Retreat and to register, please go to  Any questions, please contact Rebecca Sandulli at

Anyone who wishes to sing in the choir for that Sunday's service is invited to come to the choir room for a short rehearsal at 9:30 a.m. to learn the anthem for the day.  The music is straightforward and fun.

Join us each Sunday during the Summer from 9:00 - 10:00 a.m., in room 116 for a class on “Manifesting God within and around through prayer, meditation, sacred readings and mindfulness.”
